TT Memorabilia at Auction

TT Memorabilia

An important collection of Isle of Man TT signs and memorabilia, valued at over £20,000, has been consigned to the Charterhouse online auction of classic and vintage motorcycles on Wednesday 6th May.

“The collection is a historically important part of the world famous road racing TT of which many fans will have seen, stood next to or ridden past over the decades.” Commented Richard Bromell. “You might occasionally come across a single TT sign but to see all these together is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a collector to acquire a collection ideal for the living room, garage, bike shed or man-cave!”

The collection comprises six Milestone signs each approx. 6ft x 2ft, the Verandah Four Bends sign approx. 7ft x 2ft 6 inches, eighteen Location signs and four pit lane Shell petrol fillers each approx. 2ft 6 inches high.

The milestone signs informed competitors how many miles they have completed from the start and were in use from the 1950’s until the 1990s, with the Arai decals added in the 1980s

The large 7ft Verandah sign indicated to the competitors that this bend was made up of four sections and was in use from the 1950s to 1980s.

The Location signs were purely to let the competitors know which part of the circuit they were passing through and were traditionally used to help newcomers to learn the circuit from the 1950’s.

The pit lane petrol fillers were located in each riders pit to enable the mechanics to refill the fuel tank during their pits stops which were used from the post war period until 1977.

The collection, estimated to sell for £20,000-25,000, comes to the Charterhouse auction with 24 Certificates of Authenticity issued and signed by Paul Phillips, TT & Motorsport Manager for the Isle of Man Government documenting there history and provenance.

With the COVID-19 virus pandemic, this Charterhouse auction of nearly 100 classic and vintage motorcycles and TT memorabilia will be conducted live on the internet via www.charterhouse-bikes.com with telephone bidding and absentee commission bids.
